Medair is an impartial, independent, and neutral humanitarian organisation relieving human suffering in the world’s most difficult-to-reach and devastated places. With its headquarter in Switzerland, Medair is working in 13 countries around the globe with over 1400 employees. In 2019 Medair has assisted over 3.5 million beneficiaries as they focus on health services, nutrition, water and sanitation (WASH), shelter and infrastructure.
Medair in South Sudan
Political conflict, compounded by economic woes and drought, has caused massive displacement, raging violence and dire food shortages. Conflict has forced people from their homes and families have been separated. Livelihoods have been severely affected as people have been unable to plant and harvest. Most families are hungry and struggling to afford market prices that are continuing to rise. Over seven million people – around two thirds of the population – are in need of urgent assistance.
Medair began operating in southern Sudan in 1992 and today is one of Medair’s largest country programmes. To address the immense needs Medair is implementing integrated and multi-sectoral responses in several regions of the country. A highly flexible and fast responding Emergency Response Team is based in the capital Juba to respond throughout the country as emergencies arise.
Medair is bringing life-saving relief to communities who need help.
